You can query up to 13 months of data (up to yesterday). Use the Query builder to set a date range, and select one or more Filters, such as station or advertiser. You also determine the layout and breakdown of the report by choosing one or more Dimensions (to a maximum of six).

Create a Report

  1. Select a Report Type.

  2. In Filters, choose at least one filter and the date range.
    If you manage more than one publisher, use the first filter to select the publisher you want. If you manage only one publisher, that publisher is selected by default and you cannot change it.

  3. Select one or more dimensions (to a maximum of six). If you selected Impressions or Spots - CPS as the report type, you can also select the Metrics.
    Select Dimensions via the drop-down list. Dimensions are added in the order in which you select them.

  4. Click Run.

  5. View the report in the Report area. The on-screen report area is a quick view of your report, with a limit of 500 lines.

  6. Optional: Save your query and set it to run on a schedule.

  7. Optional: Export the report as an Excel (.xlsx) or .csv file to see the full results, up to 100,000 lines.

Choose a Date Range

The date range and time dimension settings in TAP, Webcast Metrics, Streaming Metrics, and Royalty Reports are based on station timezone. Those settings in TAP Explore, TAP Affidavits, Podcast Explore, Lineup Explore, and TAP Segment PoP Report are based on UTC.

TAP Explore retains data for up to 13 months. Use the custom date range settings to retrieve this data. You must enter a start date and an end date, and the custom date range cannot exceed six months. In other words, you can select a range of up to six months from any time within the previous 13 months. Exception: TAP Explore retains only seven days' data for the dimension Date Hour.

When you click the date range indicator the Date Range panel appears, where you can choose a range such as Last 7 Days or Last Week, or specify a custom range. Click Apply or Apply and Run to apply the date range.

MSA Usage Notes

MSA (Metro Streaming Area) is a Triton Digital-defined region for measuring demographics in the United States. It is used primarily for densely populated urban areas; not every address in the United States falls into a Triton MSA, and some addresses overlap into two Triton MSAs (such as some addresses in New York state which fall under both the New York MSA and the Nassau-Suffolk (Long Island) MSA).

To avoid duplicate data when using MSA in a report, you should either filter by MSA or split by MSA dimension, but not both (there is no deduplication process). Also, you should not aggregate MSA results, as you could be counting some listeners twice due to market boundaries that overlap.

Using Run, Apply, and Apply and Run

There are several ways to apply changes in the query builder and to run the report. The option you choose depends on your context.

The Run button appears in the Query Builder. Use it to submit changes and re-run a report after you change a filter or dimension. You can also use this button to run a report if you have closed the Selection Management Area without having clicked Apply and Run.
ApplyClick the Apply button in the Selection Management Area to apply your selection (filter or dimension) without running the report. Use this when you plan on adding several filters or dimensions. It saves you time because you don't have to wait for the report to generate before you select the next item.
Apply and RunUse Apply and Run when you have selected the last item from the Selection Management Area and you are ready to run the report.

TAP Explore Query-building Notes

  • If you switch from one Report Type selection to another, all filters and dimensions are reset.

  • You can manually reset the settings by clicking Reset. Be careful, there is no undo.

  • When you add a filter, the filter's selection defaults to the selection you used the last time you used that filter. For example, if you add a City filter for Boston, the next time you choose the City filter, Boston will be automatically selected. It is very easy to change the selection.

  • To edit a filter, click it and make your changes in the Filter panel, which appears on the right side of the screen. Click Apply to save the changes.

  • To remove a filter or dimension, click the X on the item's button. If you have only one filter or dimension selected, there is no X because there must always be at least one filter/dimension. To remove that item, click it and change it to a different item in Filter or Dimensions.

Tips and Best Practices

TAP Explore provides a variety of dimensions and metrics combinations. For best results, try to limit the scope of your reports to reasonable coverage; otherwise, performance might be affected. The following tips and best practices should help you avoid performance issues.

  • To run a RON (run of network) report, select the publisher but do not filter by any stations.

  • Use filters to reduce the amount of data to be queried. For example, run your report for a single campaign or a selected group of campaigns instead of all campaigns; this will make the report run faster if you have many campaigns booked in TAP.

  • Use shorter date ranges when possible. A broad date range selection could affect report performance.

  • A 24 hour delay applies: you can only query data that is at 24 hours old.

  • A maximum of 500 rows are displayed in the on-screen report results section. If you need more than 500 rows of results, export the report to see the full range of data, up to 100,000 lines.

  • Reports with high row counts that include large numbers of dimensions and/or metrics may fail to export successfully. If this occurs, reduce the complexity of the report by including fewer dimensions and/or metrics, or shortening the date range, then try exporting again.

  • You can add a maximum of six dimensions to a query.

  • Keep your report as simple as possible to achieve the results you're looking for. As you add more dimensions and metrics to your queries, you increase the complexity of the report, which increases the probability of latency or failure.

  • Avoid double-counting report totals. Be aware that some dimensions can represent the same event more than once. For example, a single impression can be associated with both a TTag and an audience (DMP) segment. If you create a report using both of those dimensions, the single impression will be counted twice. For this reason, and to avoid duplication, be careful about the dimensions you choose and don't sum the metric columns. This is why there is no Totals row for reports that include dimensions where this is possible.

  • Example: Flight number 1234 targets three DMP segments; Female 18-24 AND Car enthusiast AND Avid gamer. The flight received 250 impressions. If you create a report that includes the DMP segment dimension, the result will be like the table below. This represents only 250 impressions, but if you sum the Total Impressions column it will appear to be 750 impressions.

  • Time breakdown dimensions are on the stations' time zones. The report shows the sum of all impressions delivered per-station in their time zone for the selected time breakdown such as month.

  • TAP Explore cannot create a useful report for every possible combination of report type and dimensions. A later release will include validations to prevent you from creating badly formed reports, but for now it is up to you to use caution. If a report takes an unusually long time to generate, or if the results are missing or seem inaccurate, please reduce the scope of your query and try again.
