Connect a Playlist to Apple Podcasts

Prev Next

You can connect your Omny Studio playlist to an Apple Podcasts show:

  • Omny premium content: Publish to Apple Podcast Subscriptions.

  • Omny video clips: Publish as HLS (HTTP live streaming) Video in Apple Podcasts.

Non-Premium Content

This article shows you how to connect an playlist to Apple Podcasts Connect. If you publish your Omny playlist to Apple Podcasts with your playlist’s RSS feed, see Submit Non-Premium Content to Apple Podcasts.

Steps to connect an Omny playlist to an Apple Podcasts show.

  1. Go to the Omny playlist you want to connect to Apple Podcasts. See Find Items.

  2. In your playlist’s Details tab, select Apple Podcasts.

  3. Do one of these:

    • For an Apple Podcast show you have already created: Paste the Apple Podcast show ID into Omny Studio then select Connect Show. You can get the ID from Apple Podcasts Connect.

    • To create a new Apple Podcast show: Select Create show in Apple Podcasts. This will open a new window in Apple Podcasts Connect to create a show.

  4. For video: Once the playlist is connected to Apple, you will see the option to enable Apple Podcasts video. Select Enable.

  5. For premium content: Log into your Apple Podcasts Connect account to set up the subscription benefits for your new show. For details, see Apple’s Set up a show subscription.

Connect Podcasts in Bulk

If you have many playlists to connect to Apple Podcasts, Omny Studio can help you. For details, contact Omny support.

Approval from Apple

Before publishing your playlist on Apple Podcasts, Apple first reviews your podcast for conformance to their guidelines. For details, see Apple’s Review process.

In some cases, Apple can reject your podcast. When this happens, an error message appears in Omny Studio, “Apple Podcasts video is enabled, but this playlist has not been approved by Apple”.

To find out why Apple has not approved your podcast, go to Contact us in Apple Podcasts Connect. For video playlists, choose the topic HLS Video.

Usage Notes

For all playlists that you connect to Apple Podcast shows:

  • After you have connected your playlist to Apple Podcasts, do not make changes to your content in Apple Podcasts Connect because it could be overwritten by Omny Studio.

  • You cannot connect the playlist if its Publishing setting is Private. See Set up Clips for Apple Subscriber Benefits.

  • The RSS feed for your playlist remains unchanged after connecting your Omny playlist to Apple Podcasts.

  • If you have many playlists to connect to Apple Podcasts, Omny Studio can help you. For details, contact Omny support.

For video playlists:

  • Do not add distinct audio and video versions of your episodes to a playlist that is connected to Apple Podcasts for video distribution. Add only the video versions of your clips. When video is not available, you can add an audio clip.

  • Your audio-only episode still appears on your Apple show listing. Omny delivers it to Apple Podcasts as an MP3 file, not through HLS. Apple might charge you differently for non-HLS content. See your agreement with Apple Podcasts to confirm.

  • If you want to use distinct audio or video for your RSS feed to distribute on other platforms, you need to create a separate playlist.

For premium content playlists:

  • Currently, Apple Podcasts does not support video content for Apple Subscriptions subscribers. They will continue to receive the audio with their subscriber benefits.

  • You will have to continue to use Apple Podcasts Connect to set up and manage your Apple Subscriptions.

  • You can set up your clips for ad-free, early access, and bonus episodes. See Set up Clips for Apple Subscriber Benefits.
