Clip visibility

Prev Next

There are several visibility options:

  • Public: The clip is accessed with an Omny.fm link (it will appear in the show listing and will be indexed by search engines), can be embedded, can be downloaded directly, and will appear in RSS feeds if added to a playlist.
  • Private: The clip is not publicly visible or accessible but can be scheduled. It will not be written to the RSS feed of any playlists it is added to.1
  • Restricted: The clip is only written to the RSS feed of playlists that are using Omny’s Restricted content access or Apple Podcast Subscriptions functionality.
  • Unlisted: The clip is not publicly viewable (and should not be indexed by search engines). However, it can be shared via the Omny.fm link, embedded in a website, or linked directly, and will appear in RSS feeds if added to a playlist.2

Clip Visibility Notes:

  1. A clip set to "Private" is not written to the RSS feed of any playlists it is added to. If the clip was previously available in podcast apps (i.e., set to Unlisted/Public and added to a playlist) and then made Private, it will no longer be playable in podcast apps, and will be removed from the podcast's listing in podcast apps. (This can take some time, depending on the podcast app; in some cases the clip will remain playable after being set to Private.)
  2. If you add an Unlisted clip to a playlist, it will become visible in the playlist (and its RSS feed).
  3. The default visibility setting for new clips depends on where you create the clip. (See Visibility for New Clips.)

Visibility for New Clips

When creating a new clip from the Clips page, the clip is set to Private by default.

When creating a new clip from the Playlist page, the clip is set to the same publish state as the playlist. E.g., if the playlist is Private the clip will be Private; if the playlist is Public the clip will be Public.
