Audio capture devices reside on the computer running Station Manager. The device (usually a hardware sound card, but virtual sound cards can also be used) receives the broadcast signal and processes it using the Station Manager Media Encoder.
Triton Digital recommends using sound cards with built-in processing, as our streaming solution does not include processors. (Not all sound cards support processing. Refer to your sound card technical specifications for more information.) You can also process the audio before Station Manager encodes it by using any of your normal pre-processing chains.
You need one capture device for every station that you stream. However, you can run several capture devices on a single computer, or use a multi-input capture device, in order to stream multiple stations from one machine. For example, Station 1 can use stereo input 1, and Station 2 can use stereo input 2.
Sound Card Recommendations
Sound card configuration is the most important factor in determining the quality of your audio stream. For specific notes on sound cards, refer to the "Signal Acquisition with Station Manager" section of the Minimum Service and Technical Requirements document.
