Enter a Custom VAST URL

Prev Next

Instead of uploading a media file for a flight creative’s ad unit, you can enter a custom or third-party VAST URL. This lets you use one or more custom VAST tags in the same flight while keeping flight setup and ad group-level targeting in TAP.

When a listener’s player makes an ad request, TAP routes the request through the Creative Manager to select the appropriate ad unit. If the selected ad unit uses a custom VAST tag, Creative Manager returns it through a VAST wrapper, and the player then calls the custom VAST tag.

Create an Ad Unit for a Custom VAST Tag

Steps to create an ad unit for a custom VAST URL

  1. In TAP, open the flight that you want to add a custom VAST tag to. The flight must at least be saved as draft.

  2. Go to the Creative section, select Triton Creative Manager.

  3. Select New ad unit. You can skip this step if the flight has no ad units yet.

  4. Select Custom VAST URL.

  5. Fill in VAST URL. To include macros, see Using Macros in TAP.

  6. Enter the creative Duration in seconds.

  7. Optional: Enter an External ID.

  8. Review the personal data disclaimer, and if you agree, select the checkbox.

  9. Save the creative or save it as draft.

Usage Notes

  • Your custom VAST tags must include any required banners and tracking pixels. The TAP Creative Manager does not provide these for ad units that use custom VAST URLs.

  • TAP performs no validation checks of the custom VAST URL. Be sure your URL conforms to VAST standards. For information on using third-party VAST testers, see Creative Manager Tips & Tricks.

  • TAP supports the use of VAST and VAST wrappers, including nesting of wrappers, up to version 4.3 of VAST. However, this does not guarantee that the player supports this usage of VAST.

  • Ensure that the Duration you enter matches the creative in the VAST URL. TAP uses Duration only to reserve inventory. It does not validate Duration with the custom VAST URL’s media, so no error is shown if they do not match.

  • Custom VAST URLs are not saved to the Triton creative library. They are separate from reusable creative library assets.
