Feed Drops

Prev Next

You can publish a clip and its supporting metadata, from a source program to a destination program with a feed drop. This is useful for cross-promoting podcast shows in a network. For example, if a podcast series is concluding, you can use feed drops to release a teaser episode from a new program in a destination program, guiding listeners to your upcoming program.

With a feed drop you can also modify the clip’s title, description, publish date, season, episode number, and schedule its release date in the destination program.

A feed-dropped clip only appears in the Clips list of the source program, it does not belong to the destination program.

Permission Required

To manage feed drops, your Omny Studio account must have content permissions for both the origin and destination programs. For details, see Omny Studio User Permissions.

Create a Feed Drop

  1. Go to the clip in the source program that you want to drop into the destination’s program’s playlist.

  2. In the Details tab, ensure that the clip’s Current Visibility is either Unlisted or Public. The clip must not be Private. See Clip visibility.

  3. In the Feed drops tab, select Create feed drop.

  4. In Create Feed Drop, select Destination playlist.

  5. Optional: In Select destination playlist for feed drop, search for the Program and Playlist where you want to drop the clip.

  6. Select the destination playlist’s + (plus) button.

  7. Specify the feed drop’s details:

    • Feed drop starts on: Optional. Specify the date and time for the feed drop to start. The default is to add the clip to the destination playlist immediately.

    • Update published date: Check to use the feed drop’s start date, uncheck to use the clip’s Published date.

    • Feed drop ends on: Optional: Specify the date and time for Omny Studio to remove the clip from the destination playlist. The default is to leave the clip in the destination playlist indefinitely.

    • Title, Description, Season and episode information: Optional. Override and specify a custom information for the clip in the destination playlist. This does not affect the clip’s original information. The default is to use the clip’s information.

    • Disable dynamic ad insertion: Check to drop an ad-free clip, with no ad markers. Uncheck to keep the clip’s ad markers and program ad settings.

  8. Scroll down and select Create feed drop.

View, Edit, and Delete Feed Drops

You can see, edit, and delete current feed drops. When editing a feed drop, you cannot change Destination Playlist. Instead, delete the feed drop and create a new one with the destination playlist that you want.

You can see the status of a feed dropped clip in a clip’s Feed Drops tab:

  • Not started: The clip is scheduled and ready to be feed-dropped but no yet live.

  • Live: The feed-dropped clip is active and available in the destination playlist.

  • Completed: The feed-dropped clip has expired and no longer appears in the destination playlist.

  1. Go to the clip with the feed drops.

  2. Select the Feed drops tab.

  3. Review the feed drops for this clip.

  4. Optional: Select the options drop-down to edit or delete a feed drop.

Analytics for Feed-Dropped Clips

Omny Studio applies downloads of feed-dropped clips to the source program, not the destination program. In other words, downloads of a feed-dropped clip from the destination playlist will be reported only in the clip’s source program.

  • At clip-level, download analytics of a shared clip will show downloads across all the playlists it is available from.

  • At program-level, download analytics will include all downloads of that shared clip across all playlists it is available from.
