Targeting templates allow you to quickly apply preset targeting criteria to a flight. This is useful when you use the same targeting criteria for several different flights, or when you use the same targeting criteria for flights that are created in succession.
Targeting templates can also be useful when you have elaborate targeting setups with only small differences between them, such as highly refined setups where the only difference is between the geographical areas targeted. In this case, you can set up your targeting template using the first set of criteria, then copy it. In the copy you only need to change the geo setting; you don’t have to re-build the entire setup.
Creating a Targeting Template
There are two ways to create a targeting template. You can create it in TAP Settings, or from within a flight.
To create a targeting template from TAP Settings:
On the Targeting template page, click +New targeting template.
On the New targeting template page that appears, enter a name for the template.
Use the Targeting section to create content, listener, or time targeting rules, the same way you do when adding targeting rules to a flight.
Click Create targeting template to create the template.
(Optional.) If you don’t want the template to be active right away (e.g., if you expect to add more rules later, or you want someone to review the template first), select Create as draft before you save the template. Draft templates are not selectable when adding targeting to a flight.
To create a targeting template from a flight
You can create a new targeting template from the targeting rules you have set up in a flight. For details, see Using Targeting Templates.
Copying and Editing a Targeting Template
You can edit a targeting template at any time. Simply click the template in the templates list, or select Edit targeting template from the template’s options menu to open the template for editing.
Targeting templates are not dynamically linked when they are applied in a flight! If you apply a targeting template in a flight and then edit the targeting setup in the flight, the changes do not affect the original template. Similarly, if you edit a targeting template that has already been applied to flights, those flights do not update to the new template rules.
You can copy an existing targeting template and use that as the starting point for a new template.
To copy a targeting template, select Copy targeting template from the template’s Options menu in the templates list. The copy opens in the template editor, and the template name is appended with “(Copy)”. You can now edit the template copy (including the name).
Targeting Template Status
When you create a targeting template its status is set to Active immediately, unless you had selected Create as draft.
Active: Template can be used in flights. It can be edited, copied, or archived, but it cannot be returned to Draft status.
Draft: Template cannot yet be used in flights. It can be edited, copied, or archived, and can be set to Active status.
Archived: Template cannot be used in flights. It can be re-activated. It cannot be edited while in Archived status, but can be edited after being re-activated.
To Use a Targeting Template
You can apply a targeting template when you are setting up a flight in TAP. For more information, see Using Targeting Templates.
