Q&A Contextual Targeting

Office Hours and Webinar Q&A transcripts are lightly edited for clarity and brevity and are presented here for your convenience and to ensure the answers to important questions are shared. Answers are accurate at the time they are transcribed and presented, but due to on-going feature development and continuous improvements, some answers might be out of date when you read them. If there is a conflict between a Q&A answer and the related user guide, the user guide takes precedence.

Below is a selection of questions and answers captured during Contextual Targeting Office Hours sessions and Wednesday Webinars. Newer items are at the top.

Question

Answer

When creating my contextual tag, can I be as granular as to include a specific movie? For example, Star Wars (advertiser for Star Wars collectible releasing new figurines).

Yes, this would be done via the named entities. When creating your contextual tag, select the filter Named entities and enter the movie name.

Are the contextual tags I create available to all other publishers?

The contextual tags you create are on your episodes only and are not available to any other publishers.

Does Sounder work with Reach Extension on TAP?

An Owner can apply contextual tags when allocating inventory to a Reseller Contract. However, a Reseller cannot use the Owner’s contextual tags when creating a flight for sale under the contract. (Contextual tags are available in the account of the owner of the tags.)

If the Reseller is also a publisher with contextual targeting, it's important to note that contextual tags group episodes.

If, as a Reseller, you are targeting both a Reach Extension contract AND your owned-and-operated ad inventory, you would then be able to use YOUR contextual tags (which would apply to YOUR inventory), just remember to use the OR operator (e.g., Contract XX OR Contextual tag).

How long does it take for Sounder’s AI to process and categorize a new episode?

Depending on the length of the episode, it can take up to five minutes. (For episodes exceeding three hours, expect more processing time.)

What type of “rule” can be applied after the Sounder tag in TAP is selected?

In TAP, use the contextual targeting content targeting rule the same way as any other targeting rule: Target or exclude, combine with other targeting rules (e.g., geo).

How accurate is forecasting on Contextual tags?

It will take 28 days after creation of the contextual tag to get reliable forecast on it.

Must the contextual tag have been used in a flight targeting to show results in forecasting?

Contextual tag will be eligible for forecasting after 28 days, whether or not they were used in a flight's targeting.
