Connect Third-party Icecast Products and Services

You can connect devices and applications that support Icecast to stream to Triton Digital.

This article refers to third-party products and applications. It is not intended as an endorsement, it is presented here only as a convenience to Triton Digital clients. These products are subject to change without notice and there is no guarantee that the information below is the most up-to-date for those products.

Also, this article assumes you have already worked with the Triton Implementation Team on the initial setup at Triton, and you have received the appropriate configuration information from Triton Digital.

Connect Telos Z/IP Stream R/2 or R/20

These instructions apply to both the R/2 and R/20 devices.

  1. On the main page for Zipstream, select + New.

  2. Depending on the encoding of the mount select AAC or MP3 encoder instance. For this example, we use AAC.

  3. In Name, use the name of the mount provided by Triton.

  4. Enter Audio source, Processing, Format, and Bitrate. The format and bitrate must match the settings provided by Triton Implementation team for this mount.

  5. Select Send to ICEcast server from the drop down menu on the bottom right section of Zipstream. When this option is selected, new options appear.

  6. Mount point, Username, Password as well as the server address are provided by the Triton implementation team.
    It is really important to set up a port, otherwise the stream will stay stuck in a “starting” mode. Ports 80, 443 and 3690 are supported.

  7. Select Save on the bottom right corner. The stream should start right away.

Connect Wheatstone Encoders

Wheatstone Streamblade and Wheatstream streaming appliances and Layers cloud streaming software support up to four stream destinations.

Each ingest stream can be sent to as many as four different destinations, each with its own codec, bitrate, and transport format.

  1. In the Wheatstream software, on the programming service on the left hand side of the screen select Destinations and select an output number you wish to edit.

  2. In Protocol, choose Triton and enter the credentials provided by Triton.

  3. Set the same codec and bitrate as the Triton mount.

  4. Select Start Stream on the upper right corner.

Connect Edcast

Edcast is a free application that can broadcast live audio to Icecast or Shoutcast servers.

Edcast supports these encoders:

  • AAC

  • Ogg FLAC

  • OggVorbis

To use different encoder types (such as MP3), extra dynamic link libraries (DLL) need to be installed. It is mandatory to save these DLL files inside the same Edcast program folder.

The Edcast codec must match the settings configured by the Triton Implementation team for your mount.

  1. Start Edcast Standalone and select Add Encoder.

  2. Right-click the new encoder and select Configure.

  3. In Server Type, choose Icecast2 and use the Triton Digital credentials to fill in the rest of the Basic Settings tab:

    • Bitrate

    • Sample rate

    • Channels

    • Encoder Type

    • Server IP: You can enter the DNS domain as it is supported too.

    • Server Port

    • Encoder Password

    • Mountpoint: The name of the mount needs to be preceded by a /.

  4. Select OK. Once saved, this window will close.

  5. Select the new encoder then Connect.

You should see information about the encoder status in the Transfer Rate column.

Connect BUTT

BUTT (Broadcast Using This Tool) is a free and unfortunately-named application that can broadcast live audio to Icecast or Shoutcast servers.

The BUTT codec must match the settings configured by the Triton Implementation team for your mount.

  1. Open the BUTT application.

  2. Click the Settings button.

  3. In the Settings window, select the Main tab.

  4. Click the Add button located under the Server drop-down menu. The Add Server window opens.

  5. Select IceCast and enter the information provided by the Triton Implementation team.

  6. Click the Add button to save.

  7. Go to the Audio tab in order to configure the encoding settings. These parameters need to match the configuration of the mount provided by Triton Digital.icecast-butt3

  8. Close the window. Your new configured server should now show in the Server list.

  9. Select the Play button on the main window to start streaming.
