FAQs for on-premises recording agent installations
Most of the time, installation of the on-premises recording agents goes smoothly but here are a few FAQs people have encountered.
Selecting an audio source causes the application to crash
The installer has been downloaded, and run successfully but selecting an input device causes the application to crash.
When this happens there's usually one of two things that can be causing the application to crash.
The microphone might not be installed correctly
Solution: Check that the microphone works and re-install the microphone if required.
The application doesn't have the required permissions to use the microphone
Solution: On newer versions of Windows, the
Microphone access
setting needs to be enabled for the installer to use the microphone. This varies for Windows versions but if you go to Settings -> Privacy & security -> Microphone, theMicrophone access
setting needs to be turned on. This will allow the installer to use the microphone when selected. For the most up-to-date instructions on this, you can refer directly to Microsoft's guide as found here.
Can I install multiple on-premises agents on one machine?
You can install multiple on-premises agents on a single machine but we strongly recommend they have multiple input devices. If they’re all using a single input device, it might just be better to use a single agent.
Can I install the same on-premises agent multiple times on the same machine?
An on-premises agent can only be installed once on the same machine. Clicking on the install
button multiple times will just remove the existing service and re-install it.
Can an on-premises agent be installed multiple times on different machines?
We strongly advise against this type of setup. This can cause issues as the recording agent on both machines will try to create recordings in a schedule and will generate alerts. When a duplicate on-premises agent is identified, it will need to be removed to avoid additional difficulties.
