# Using Targeting Templates

Use **targeting templates** to create re-usable targeting setups that you can easily apply to flights.

Targeting templates use the same parameters that are available to you when creating a flight. Once you create and save a template, you can apply that template to your flights with just a few clicks.

Targeting templates are managed in [TAP Settings](/user/docs/settings-targeting-templates).

> [!NOTE]
> Editing a targeting template that has already been applied to flights does not affect those flights. Also, applying a targeting template in a flight and then editing the flight’s targeting rules does not affect the template. Targeting templates are not dynamically linked to flights.

## Applying a Targeting Template in a Flight

When you apply a targeting template to a flight, any targeting rules that already exist for the flight are **replaced** by the targeting rules in the template. However, once you apply the template, you can add additional targeting rules to the flight.

**To apply a targeting template:**

1. To apply a targeting template, click **Apply template**in the flight’s **Targeting** section. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/7124b381-0a94-401a-abbd-9df9c4ea5dff/Images/Documentation/Targ-templ-apply-from-flight.png)
2. Choose a template from the list that appears, and click **Apply this template**. *You are asked to confirm your choic*e. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/7124b381-0a94-401a-abbd-9df9c4ea5dff/Images/Documentation/Targ-templ-pick-from-list.png)

## Editing a Targeting Setup From a Template

> [!NOTE]
> Editing a targeting template that has already been applied to flights does not affect those flights. Also, applying a targeting template in a flight and then editing the flight’s targeting rules does not affect the template. Targeting templates are not dynamically linked to flights.

Once you apply a targeting template in a flight, you can:

- Add additional targeting rules to the flight;
- Edit rules that were applied from the targeting template;
- Remove rules that were applied from the targeting template.

Simply add, edit, or remove rule as you would in any targeting setup.

## Editing the Targeting Template

Because targeting templates are not dynamic (i.e., once applied to a flight they are no longer linked to the template), you cannot edit the template from within the flight.

To edit a targeting template, go to **TAP Settings > Organization >**[**Targeting template**](/user/doc/settings-targeting-templates#copying-and-editing-a-targeting-template).

## Saving a Targeting Setup as a Template

While you cannot edit a targeting template from within a flight, you can save your targeting rules setup (whether it’s from a template or built from scratch) as a new targeting template. Simply click **Save as template** and provide a template name.

> [!NOTE]
> Targeting template names are not case sensitive. For example, you cannot save a template with the name `My Best Template` if you already have a template called `My best template`.
