# Packages for Publishers

*Packages*are created by ad networks to bundle publishers’ inventory and make it available to any TAP Programmatic-connected demand partner, through deals. As a publisher, to include your inventory in packages, you must opt in to one or more packages.

> [!NOTE]
> Also see:

> - [TAP Programmatic Glossary](/user/docs/tap-prog-glossary)
> - [Third-party Processing Instructions](/user/docs/third-party-processing-instructions)

> [!NOTE]
> Once an ad network has created a package and made it available for opting-in, **they cannot change the terms of the package**. They can, however, remove the package from their list of offered packages. Also, a publisher opting-in to a package does not guarantee the publisher will receive revenue from the package.

To see your list of packages, go to **Programmatic > Publisher > Packages**.

The **Packages**list shows you all packages available to you. As with all TAP module list pages, you can modify the list to your liking, [as described here](/user/docs/the-tap-user-interface#module-lists).

2. Filter by package name, opt-in status, or ad network.
3. List of available packages.
4. Module list options for customizing columns.
5. Package options.

#### Package List Descriptions and Options

The table below describes the items found on the list of packages page.

| **Item** | **Description** | **Note** |
| --- | --- | --- |
| **Name** | The name of the package. | |
| **Ad Network** | The name of the ad network that owns the package. | |
| **Status** | Opt-in status (Opted-in or Not opted-in). | See: - [Opting-in to a Package](/docs/packages-publishers-tap#optingin-to-a-package) - [Opting-out of a Package](/docs/packages-publishers-tap#optingout-of-a-package) |
| **Market Type** | The package market type. | - **Preferred deals** compete first and have priority over Private auction deals. - **Private auction** deals compete after preferred deals but before open auction. - **Open auction** deals compete with open auction bids. |
| **Price** | The fixed or minimum price amount, with two decimal points of precision (i.e., to the cent, such as "1.25" for "$1.25"). When currency is not indicated, it means “USD.” When the package uses a currency other than USD, the currency is indicated with the price. | |
| **Package Targetings** | The targeting options set for the package by the ad network. Roll your cursor over the icons to see the details. | If no geographic targeting rules apply, then *all geographic areas are targeted*. Similarly, if no content targeting rules apply, then all content (*including all IAB v2 formats*) is targeted. |
| **Opt-in Targetings** | Specific inventory defined for the package opt-in. Roll your cursor over the icons to see the details. | See [Defining Specific Inventory for Packages (Optional)](/docs/packages-publishers-tap#defining-specific-inventory-for-packages-optional), below. |
| **Created Date** | The date the package was created by the ad network. | |
| **Opted-in Date** | The date when you opted-in to the package. | |

## Opting-in to a Package

To *opt-in* to a package means that you, the publisher:

- Provide Triton Digital the instructions to allow the ad network that owns the package to **make the inventory available for sale** on your behalf.
- Agree to the package **fixed or minimum price**. This is the CPM that the ad network pays you (the publisher) for all ads delivered through the package.
- Agree to have any of the publisher inventory that meets the criteria of the package be available for the ad network to include in deals.
- Will specify the **market type** where you would like your inventory to be made available: Preferred (Top priority), Private (High Priority), Open (Normal Priority).

> [!NOTE]
> The SSP algorithm ultimately selects the winner based on the highest bid, **but with this nuance**: when the bid is on a package, it is the **fixed price** that is considered and not the **clear price**.

#### To opt-in to a package:

1. On the **Packages** page, review the list of packages and find one (or more) that you would like to opt-in to. If you already know the name of the package, use the Search tool to find it. Make sure the package suits your inventory in terms of any geographic or format targeting.
2. Click the package’s **Options** menu and select **Opt-in**. ![](https://cdn.document360.io/7124b381-0a94-401a-abbd-9df9c4ea5dff/Images/Documentation/tapprog-pub-packages-opt-in-menu.png)
3. On the Opt-in settings page that appears, select the **market type** where you want your inventory to compete through this package.
4. (Optional) Select **other targeting options** to define specific inventory for the package. (See [Defining Specific Inventory for Packages (Optional)](/docs/packages-publishers-tap#defining-specific-inventory-for-packages-optional), below.)
5. Click **Opt-in to package** to opt-in.

> [!NOTE]
> You can also [bulk opt-in](/docs/packages-publishers-tap#bulk-optinoptout) to packages.

### Changing Opt-in Settings

You can change the settings for an opted-in package. Click the **package name** in the packages list to go to the package page. Alternatively, select **Edit opt-in** on the package’s **Options** menu.

The package opt-in page appears, where you can make the desired changes. Click **Update opt-in** to save the changes.

### Opt-in Targeting for Packages (Optional)

You can select the **specific inventory** that you want to make available when you opt-in to a package. By default, the package targeting options apply, but you can choose to include only specific inventory by selecting it in the **Content** or **Listening** targeting sections on the package **Opt-in** page. You would do this, for example, when you only wish to use the package for a specific type of inventory, or if you want to exclude the package from certain types of inventory.

*When you select an item, it means you are excluding all items not selected*.

TAP Programmatic targeting works the same way as [TAP flight targeting](/user/docs/creating-flight-targeting-rules), although there are more options available for flight targeting.

> [!WARNING]
> Warning!
>
> TAP Programmatic’s package targeting does not validate the publisher’s targeting options against the targeting options set in the package by the ad network. Be sure to review the package’s ad network targeting settings before applying your own publisher targeting options to ensure you do not create a conflict that will affect delivery. Any inventory targeting you do should be a subset of the ad network’s targeting rules.

#### Use-case Examples for Optional Inventory Selection in Packages

**Example 1: podcast only**

An ad network has created a package that is only useful to your podcast inventory. So you opt-in to the package and select **Podcast** as the **content type**. You can even add specific podcasts (stations) if you wish (*which excludes the podcasts you do not specify*). Once you apply the opt-in settings, only your podcast inventory is available to the package.

**Example 2: exclude podcast inventory**

You are an in-stream publisher who also runs podcasts. You want to use an ad network package only for your in-stream inventory because you want to price your podcast inventory higher than the package offers. So you opt-in to the package and select **In-stream** and as the protocol. Once you apply the opt-in settings, your podcast inventory is excluded from the package.

#### In-market and Out-of-Market Targeting

Optional opt-in targeting includes **In-market and Out-of-Market** listener targeting rules, which are found in **Listener Targeting > (Geography) Market targeting**.

![](https://cdn.document360.io/7124b381-0a94-401a-abbd-9df9c4ea5dff/Images/Documentation/tapprog-pub-packages-in-out-market.png)

Select **In-market** to target listeners within the station's defined geographical coverage area. Select **Out-of-market** to only target listeners outside of the station's defined geographical coverage area. Leave this field blank to target both markets.

> [!NOTE]
> Market targeting (In- and out-of-market) only works if your podcasts/stations have a defined geographical coverage area. This is an optional setting within your Triton Digital broadcaster configuration that specifies your market coverage area based on country, DMA or MSA (U.S. only) or a latitude/longitude with a defined radius. To verify if your stations have a defined geographical coverage area, or to set it up if they don't, [contact Customer Support](/user/docs/contact-support).

## Opting-out of a Package

To opt out of a package, simply go to the package’s **Options** menu and select **Opt out**.

![](https://cdn.document360.io/7124b381-0a94-401a-abbd-9df9c4ea5dff/Images/Documentation/tapprog-pub-packages-opt-out.png)

Alternatively, go to the **package page** and select **Opt out** from the **Options** menu.

![](https://cdn.document360.io/7124b381-0a94-401a-abbd-9df9c4ea5dff/Images/Documentation/tapprog-pub-packages-page-opt-out.png)

> [!NOTE]
> You can also [bulk opt-out](/docs/packages-publishers-tap#bulk-optinoptout) of packages.

## Bulk Opt-in/Opt-out

You can **bulk opt-in** or **bulk opt-out** of packages. When you select one or more packages, the bulk options appear at the bottom of the packages list.

- If you select “Not opted in” packages, the **Bulk opt-in** button becomes available.
- If you select “Opted in” packages, the **Bulk opt-out** button becomes available.
- You cannot mix bulk operations; if you select both “Opted-in” and “Not opted-in” packages, neither bulk operation button can be used.
