# Manually entering a VAST URL

You have the option of manually entering a VAST URL in order to use a third-party creative in a flight.

**To enter a VAST URL as creative:**

1. After creating the flight, go to the **Creative** section of the flight builder and click **Custom VAST URL**.
2. Enter the VAST URL into the **VAST URL** field. (*If you want to include macros, see*[*Using Macros*](/v1/docs/using-macros).)
3. Enter the creative **duration** (in seconds). *This is required. See note, below*.
  - Optional: enter an [External ID](/v1/docs/new-tap-user-guide-glossary#e).
4. Review the personal data disclaimer, and if you agree, select the checkbox.
5. Click **Save Custom VAST**.

**Validation:** TAP performs no validation checks of the VAST URL that you enter. Be sure your URL conforms to [VAST standards](https://www.iab.com/guidelines/vast/). See [Creative Manager Tips & Tricks](/user/docs/creative-manager-tips-tricks) for information about using third-party testers to check your VAST URLs.

**Version:** TAP supports the use of VAST and VAST wrappers (including nesting of wrappers) up to version 4.3 of VAST. However, this does not guarantee that the *player* supports this usage of VAST.

**Duration:** Ensure that the **duration** you enter matches the creative in the VAST URL. The duration field is used to *reserve inventory*; it is not checked against the duration of the creative file, so no error is shown if they do not match.
