# Clone a Clip

You can make a copy of an existing clip. A cloned clip is a new, separate clip that’s identical to the original clip. Any changes you make to the cloned clip do not affect the original.

This is useful for a few reasons:

- Before you start [joining, splitting and trimming audio](/user/docs/joining-splitting-and-trimming-audio) you might want to first make a copy of your clip.
- Create a short clip to send to [Headliner to make an audiogram](/user/docs/creating-a-social-video-with-omny-studios-headliner-integration).
- Create an excerpt to transcribe, if you don't want to [create a transcript](/user/docs/transcribing-your-audio) of the whole clip.
- To apply a different [volume or levelling preset](/user/docs/auto-levelling-your-audio).

**How to clone a clip**

1. [Find the clip](/user/docs/find-items) you would like to clone.

2. Select the dropdown next to **Edit Audio** and select **Clone as a new clip**.

4. Save changes, then use the cloned clip like you would any other clip in Omny.
